Driehaus Museum

Driehaus Museum

On the corner of Erie and Wabash in Chicago there is a mansion that was built by Samuel Mayo Nickerson in 1879. It is currently owned by Richard Driehaus who uses it as a museum to house some of the 30,000 items he has collected over the years.

During the year, they have several different exhibitions and the one we saw recently was about the age of the French Art Posters which the museum calls L’Affichomania: The Passion for French Posters

The exhibit contains original posters most of which came from La Belle Epoque lasting from about 1885 to 1914. One of the nice things about the mansion is they can put these posters in many different rooms so you get to see the whole house by the time you are done.

In addition to the artwork, the house has a large collection of original pieces from the period that adorn many rooms.

There is also a large Tiffany glass dome window that allows sunlight into one of the ground floor rooms. We liked the house so much we joined the Driehaus Museum which allows us to attend various events at reduced prices. We also receive advance notifications of upcoming events.
