In 1976, we moved from Atlanta, GA to Chicago as part of a career move. We quickly discovered that houses in Chicago cost a lot more than they did in Atlanta. This meant we had to settle for something less than we had become used to.
Mary, in her wisdom, picked out a house that had a lot of things not to like but came with 2 acres of land (they don’t make land anymore), a barn a tool shed, 3 car garage and a coat of paint that would charitably be called salmon.
It had been built by the couple we bought it from using a kit they
bought from Sears, Roebuck. There was a lot of wood paneling, some of it mahogany, and a lot of features that were loved more by their creators than the new buyers. It took us a while, but we painted the house and over the years made changes so that it ended up being pretty nice.
The pictures you see here were taken in 2004, three years before we sold the house but accurately represent what it looked like when we sold it in 2007. We lived there for 31 years and enjoyed every one of them.
